What does a zero waste shaving routine involve? There are a few options each with their own unique features so this post breaks it all down with plenty of options of durable safety razors, plastic-free shaving soap bars, and even kits that come ready with everything you need.

Zero Waste Shaving Kits
If you’re just getting started with zero waste shaving and looking for an all-in-one solution, kits can be a convenient — and more affordable — option. A kid will typically feature a safety razor, replaceable blades, and a plastic-free shaving soap bar.

For a zero waste shave soap, there are plenty of DIY shaving creams online! But, if you’d rather not make your own, though, here are a few options…
1. EcoRoots Organic Shaving Soap

The cream is made with organic aloe vera, olive oil, and shea butter to create a smooth lather along with a rhassoul clay to decrease razor slippage. The plastic-free shaving cream is packaged in a glass jar and metal tin.
4. Nettles + Clay Natural Shave Soap
The shave soap from Plum Brilliance is made with all-natural ingredients — like olive oil, coconut oil, and wild-harvested nettles — and is free from toxic skincare ingredients like sulfates, parabens, and other additives.
5. Formulary 55 Shave Oil
Another option to use in addition to (as a pre-shave) or instead of bars and creams is Formulary 55’s nourishing shaving oil. The oil, packaged in a glass bottle, is made with natural, non-toxic ingredients like organic olive oil, Vitamin E, rosemary leaf extract, and grapeseed oil. (Note: oil can build up more on razors than shaving cream, so you may need to clean off your razor more frequently if shaving with an oil.)
More Zero Waste Hair Removal Options
- Laser Hair Removal: Given the costs and effort, investing in laser hair removal isn’t a simple decision to make, but if you do decide to go this route, laser hair removal is certainly a way to remove hair without needing to use razors or shaving cream.
- Sugaring: As wax expert, Enrique Ramirez explains, “Sugaring is an organic way of removing hair using a sugar paste mixed with lemon juice and sugar.” Sugaring is known to be gentler and less painful so it’s ideal for sensitive skin. It’s also best for finer hair, so if you have thicker hair, waxing is often recommended over sugaring.
- And, of course, you don’t *have* to remove your hair at all! That option is always there if that’s something you’re comfortable with and would like to do.
