Zero Waste Shaving Kits
If you’re just getting started with zero waste shaving and looking for an all-in-one solution, kits can be a convenient — and more affordable — option. A kid will typically feature a safety razor, replaceable blades, and a plastic-free shaving soap bar.
1. EcoRoots Zero Waste Shaving Kit
This is the kit that I got when I was first starting out on my zero waste shaving journey and I love it! The safety razor is beautiful and works smoothly, the plastic-free shaving soap bar lathers up well, and the blades lasted me many shaves. The kit includes:
- Rose Gold Safety Razor
- Organic Shaving Soap Bar
- 15 Stainless Steel Replacement Blades
2. Package-Free Shop Zero Waste Shave Kit
Online zero waste store Package-Free has a shaving kit with everything you need for a clean shave. Never buy a disposable razor again with this kit, which includes:
- Stainless Steel Safety Razor
- Shave Soap Bar
- 10 Replacement Blades
- Organic Cotton Drawstring Bag
3. ZWS Shaving Kit
This zero waste shaving kit is for anyone — the safety razor and soap in this kit can be used for shaving faces, underarms, or legs! Each set includes:
- Butterfly Safety Razor
- Pack of Replacement Blades
- Organic Shave Bar
Plastic-Free Razors
If you’re not looking for an entire kit, but just need the safety razor piece of the puzzle, here are some great options! (Check out this post for tips on how to use a safety razor.)
1. Rose Gold Safety Razor
Elegantly and ergonomically designed, switching to EcoRoots’ rose gold safety razor from my disposable razors was one of my favorite zero waste swaps. The closer shave means smoother legs and longer durations of time in between shaving. Plus, the rosy pink definitely elevates my bathroom aesthetic!
2. Albatross Butterfly Safety Razor
Made from 100% corrosion-resistant stainless steel, Albatross’ safety razor is built to last. And, each razor comes with 10 replacement blades in a hemp bag. But probably the most exciting feature about Albatross for zero wasters is you can return the blades to the company for recycling.
3. Well Kept Safety Razor
Well Kept’s safety razor from EarthHero is built with a sturdy solid brass and a single stainless steel blade, leading to fewer razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Once each part has reached the end of their lives, both the blades and the handle are recyclable.
Plastic-Free Shaving Soap Bars:
For a zero waste shave soap, there are plenty of DIY shaving creams online! But, if you’d rather not make your own, though, here are a few options…
1. EcoRoots Organic Shaving Soap
This vegan, low-waste bar from EcoRoots is made from organic ingredients like coconut oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter, and essential oils. (Check out this post for more on about what terms like natural and organic mean in skincare.)
2. Shave & Body Bar
Package Free Shop’s shave & body bar is made with organic saponified olive, coconut, and castor oil, along with shea butter and a variety of essential oils to create a unique scent. You can either buy the bar once or join Package Free’s Subscribe & Save program for 20% off each bar.
3. Olive + Clay Shave Cream
If you prefer a cream over a bar, Fat and the Moon’s low waste shave cream might be the right choice for you. The cream is made with organic aloe vera, olive oil, and shea butter to create a smooth lather along with a rhassoul clay to decrease razor slippage. The plastic-free shaving cream is packaged in a glass jar and metal tin.
4. Nettles + Clay Natural Shave Soap
The shave soap from Plum Brilliance is made with all-natural ingredients — like olive oil, coconut oil, and wild-harvested nettles — and is free from toxic skincare ingredients like sulfates, parabens, and other additives.
5. Formulary 55 Shave Oil
Another option to use in addition to (as a pre-shave) or instead of bars and creams is Formulary 55’s nourishing shaving oil. The oil, packaged in a glass bottle, is made with natural, non-toxic ingredients like organic olive oil, Vitamin E, rosemary leaf extract, and grapeseed oil. (Note: oil can build up more on razors than shaving cream, so you may need to clean off your razor more frequently if shaving with an oil.)
More Zero Waste Hair Removal Options
- Laser Hair Removal: Given the costs and effort, investing in laser hair removal isn’t a simple decision to make, but if you do decide to go this route, laser hair removal is certainly a way to remove hair without needing to use razors or shaving cream.
- Sugaring: As wax expert, Enrique Ramirez explains, “Sugaring is an organic way of removing hair using a sugar paste mixed with lemon juice and sugar.” Sugaring is known to be gentler and less painful so it’s ideal for sensitive skin. It’s also best for finer hair, so if you have thicker hair, waxing is often recommended over sugaring.
- And, of course, you don’t *have* to remove your hair at all! That option is always there if that’s something you’re comfortable with and would like to do.
Well, friends, that wraps up this zero waste shaving guide! Are there any other reusable, plastic-free, or low-waste shaving-related swaps you know of?
