Whether you’re looking for eco-friendly greeting cards, wedding invitations, graduation announcements, or any other type of card, these sustainable stationery brands have what you’re looking for!
What Makes a Card Eco-Friendly?
Here are some things to look for when shopping for earth-minded greeting cards:
- Tree-Free: Look for cards made from (ideally 100%) post-consumer recycled paper that didn’t require cutting down any trees! And, you can also look for recycled paper envelopes. To take it even one step further, take a look at what kind of packaging your cards will arrive in if you’re shopping online.
- Eco-Conscious Production: Look for things like local production, in-studio printing, and/or use of renewable energy. Carbon offsets can be good, too, but should be used as a last resort after minimizing energy use and carbon emissions in the first place.
- PCF Chlorine Free: With recycled paper, you can’t necessarily guarantee chlorine-free, however, you can look for Process Chlorine Free, or “PCF”. This means that no chlorine or its derivatives were used in the recycling process.
- Environmental Donation Initiatives: Perhaps a brand is a 1% for the Planet Member or plants a tree (responsibly) with every order.
- Low Impact Ink: There are different ways to approach this and it can get a bit complicated, so check out this post for a more in-depth explanation!
