This post was created in partnership with noissue. As always, I only feature companies I truly believe in and all opinions are my own!
There is certainly no shortage of considerations an earth-friendly brand has to make when producing their products—and packaging, as the final step in the process, may sometimes get forgotten as an important part of the equation. But conscious packaging is an essential part of creating a more earth-friendly supply chain.
And with new eco-fashion and lifestyle brands sprouting up what seems like every day and online shopping showing no signs of slowing down, there is a growing void to fill: sustainable packaging for small brands that can meet the same environmental criteria of the products inside of them.
After all, I would venture to guess that any shopper going through the efforts of hunting down an organic linen dress would likely not love to receive said dress in a poly mailer made from virgin polyurethane.
If you’re a numbers kind of person, here’s a packaging stat for you! The production of 10,000 poly bubble mailers (that measure 12.5” x 18.25” x .25”) requires 520 pounds of plastic and 3.5 barrels worth of oil. Yikes! (Source)
For a while, smaller brands had little choice when it came to sustainable packaging. Ecologically-minded shipping options are already hard to come by, and finding an option with low enough minimums that could be affordable for emerging brands was virtually impossible.
Seeing this gap, though, the sustainable packaging brand noissue has swooped in to fill this need, providing earth-minded packaging options available at low minimums. (You can order as few as 100 compostable mailers, for example.)
Who is noissue?
noissue is a premium packaging provider with sustainability at its core, committed to providing brands and shops with all of their eco-friendly packaging supply needs.
I absolutely love featuring companies meeting important needs like this one: eco-minded packaging that’s accessible for virtually any brand.
Okay, so let’s dive into the details! What exactly makes noissue’s packaging eco-friendly? Here’s a look at what this innovative company is offering:
4 Green Elements of noissue’s Packaging:
1) Soy-Based Ink
Traditional ink is made from petroleum and can release significant amounts of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) when released. The European Commission actually reported that offset printing consumes around 3 million tons of hydrocarbon-based inks and chemicals, and releases about 500,000 tons of VOCs into the atmosphere every year. Another yikes! (Source)
So, instead, noissue uses a more environmentally-responsible alternative: soy-based inks. These inks are sourced from soybeans and have been shown to release significantly less VOCs. (Source) Plus, using soy-based inks makes it easier to recycle the paper they are printed on!
2) FSC-Certified Paper
The FSC-certification is given out by Forest Stewardship Council, an organization on a mission to promote more sustainable forestry around the world. For a product to have an FSC label, the components sourced from forests (such as paper and wood) must be sourced responsibly.
All of noissue’s customizable tissue paper and custom-printed paper stickers are FSC-certified, ensuring the paper was sourced entirely from well-managed forests and a sustainable supply chain.
And noissue’s packing tape is 100% Recycled FSC-certified, verifying that the tape was made from 100% recycled content!
3. Water-Activated Packing Tape
Another innovative feature of noissue’s packing tape is that it is water-activated. Using water-activated tape enables noissue to print their tape on non-glossy, non-wax-coated paper, which is more environmentally friendly because paper with gloss and paper is not compostable or biodegradable.
4) 100% Compostable Mailers
In contrast to conventional polyurethane mailers, noissue’s compostable mailers are made from PBAT, a bio-based and compostable polymer, and PLA, a material derived from renewable plant materials such as corn and sugarcane. (Source)
noissue’s mailers are certified compostable by all three certifiers in the industry to ensure they meet International, American, European, and Australian standards! These certifications verify that noissue mailers break down within 180 days (6 months) in an at-home compost and within 90 days in a commercial compost.
Impressed yet? I know I am!
